Home Tour: The Otto’s Coastal Bathroom Renos

May 30, 2019

Welcome to this week’s home tour! It’s been a while since I last posted, but I’m excited to finally reveal some fun projects I’ve been working on over the past couple months.

Last fall, I was asked to re-design the bathrooms of the Otto’s family cottage, located in Chester, Nova Scotia. They wanted a fresh, coastal-traditional look that was bright and simple to tie into the characteristics of their hundred-year-old, ocean-view home. Of course, I was eager to get started – bright white, shiplap, and clean lines are totally my style!

Since each washroom size was smaller, I wanted to brighten the rooms to make them feel larger, through a soft colour palettes and simple textures such as shiplap walls, bleached wood flooring and antique white subway tiles in the shower area. I kept the style and materials classic and simple to reflect the home’s past.

My favourite part of the project was designing custom vanities.  With clean lines, soft ocean-blue hues and a gorgeous marble countertop that reminds me of white sand, the vanity became the jewel of the room. Mr. Otto loved the idea of using nautical boating cleats to serve a purpose in the space; we used them for hardware pulls for the vanity, and as wall hooks for towels to help save on space.

We also incorporated family treasures into the space, such as black and white photos of the Otto family and their favourite shell chandelier.

I absolutely love how both the family bath and master bathroom turned out. The Nantucket inspired design fits the home perfectly. Please follow along to see the before and after photos as well as some of the designs behind the project.
