IT’S FINISHED!!!!!! Our coastal/lake-inspired nursery is finally complete and ready for our little baby boy’s arrival in June!! After months of planning, designing, and renovating, the time has come to finally share our finished nursery design and we couldn’t be more thrilled and excited about it!! Although it was not easy to complete this nursery during a pandemic, it made us realize that the material goods going into this room had to be practical, affordable, accessible, and meaningful. Stripping back on the unnecessary items we thought we needed, and focusing on keeping the design simple and elegant, especially since the room is quite small. That being said, we took the decor into our own hands, by hand painting all the wall art (myself), designing a DIY custom shelf unit using basic IKEA shelves, wooden beads, and a wooden dowel. This created a curated corner full of our favourite things and a hanger to display some of little Tully’s attire. My wonderful husband, Craig, completed and installed both the wainscotting, moulding, and wallpaper, as well as assembling all the shelving units and furniture! Using the time home together during the pandemic, we created our dream nursery for our little baby boy as a complete team. This process was such a rewarding and positive experience for both of us during such a different time. We are so grateful for our family and friends for the amazing support and love during this time (at a distance). Among all our gorgeous baby gifts, we also received some amazing/excellent condition hand-me-downs from our family, such as the beautiful rocking/nursing chair and stunning luxurious Silver Cross Limited Edition stroller. (Thanks Sara & Mike!!!!) We are over the moon and feeling so blessed!
Let’s talk about design!!! The look and feel for this nursery was inspired by the gorgeous lake we live on and our lifestyle surrounding it. Adding in coastal elements, such as soft blues and whites, canvas nautical flags, and natural raw wood elements, creating a calm, classic, and timeless aesthetic that we love so much. We wanted to go with a “Serena and Lilly” on the lake kind of look, without the major price tag! We love the look of mixing vintage and modern pieces to create a personal style that reflects our own lifestyle here by the water. After months of deciding on the perfect wallpaper (we had sooo many great options), We felt less was more, and decided to go with a classic periwinkle blue pin-stripe pattern. This added a little colour, class, and style to the walls, as we broke it up with a mid-high modern wainscotting design. This completed the room as well as added character and depth. For the decor, we wanted to keep it quite simple, with some handpainted artwork, our favourite books, and cute wooden toys (The wicker basket is fullllll of fun colorful toys … don’t worry! lol). Since this room is pretty small, we decided to wait on building an armoire closet (until baby Tully is older) and installed a simple DIY clothing rack that can later be removed or adjusted to display little Tully’s gorgeous knits and cute overalls. This room has quickly become our most beloved and favourite room in our house and we can’t wait for Little Tully to enjoy and make his own memories in it! We hope you like it as much as we do!
Our DIY raw canvas flag design actually has our boy’s name printed on it
but has been edited/removed for this reveal, so we can keep it a secret until the big day!! Stay tuned!!!
Thanks so much for checking out our nursery design! Hope you enjoyed it!
